MyDiary Help Centre

Keep important notes organised, protected and easy to recover.

MyDiary is built for everyday information you want to keep close: family reminders, bank references, policy details, useful instructions, lists, ideas and private notes. This guide explains the important features in simple language.

1. Getting started

Starting MyDiary takes less than a minute. Your name is required; email and phone are optional and can be updated later from Profile.

1

Choose New user

On the first screen choose New user, enter your name and optionally add email and phone.

☺

Complete your profile

Add or change your profile photo, name, optional email and phone at any time from Settings → Profile.

文

Choose your language

MyDiary supports English, हिन्दी, বাংলা and ગુજરાતી. Only the app interface changes; your own notes remain exactly as you typed them.

2. Understand the Dashboard

The Dashboard is your home screen. Most counts are clickable, so you can jump directly to the notes you want.

All Notes

Every note stored in MyDiary.

Pinned

Notes you marked as important for quick access.

Unknown

Notes that have not yet been assigned to a Group.

Last 7 days

Recently added or updated notes.

Groups

Your custom categories such as Bank, Family, Policy, Health, Work or Travel.

Backup & recovery

See local backup information, Google Drive status, scheduled backup and recovery details.

Useful shortcut: Tap the MyDiary logo/header from the main screens to return to your Dashboard.

3. Create and edit notes

MyDiary can be used as a simple notepad or a richer notebook with formatting, images and drawings.

Create a note

Tap New note from the Dashboard or the + button from a note list.

Give it a clear title

A useful title makes the note easier to find later.

Choose a Group

Select a Group when appropriate. If you start a note from inside a Group, that Group is selected automatically.

Use the richer editor

Use headings, bold text, lists, alignment and links. You can also insert an image or use Draw for a quick sketch or handwritten-style information.

Pin or lock important notes

Pin frequently used notes. For sensitive notes, configure a Secure PIN first, then use Lock for an extra access step.

Keep backups manageable: Images and drawings are stored with note data and increase the size of your diary database. Add images that are genuinely useful.

4. Organise notes with Groups

Groups make a larger diary much easier to navigate. Common examples are Family, Bank, Policy, Gmail, Health, Work and Travel.

U

Unknown

Any note without a Group appears under Unknown. It is a virtual Group, so the note is not changed until you assign a real Group.

+

Create Groups

Use Manage Groups to create categories that match your life and information.

↕

Arrange your way

Press and hold the drag handle in Manage Groups, then move Groups into your preferred order.

5. Sharing and importing

Share a note

Use the Android share sheet to send a note through WhatsApp, email or another installed app. Shared notes include a short “Shared from MyDiary” message and the Play Store link.

Import CSV / Google Sheets

CSV can include Title, Note and Group. If the same Title + Group already exists, MyDiary skips that row instead of creating another duplicate.

Import text files

Plain .txt / Notepad-style files can also be imported for simple notes.

6. How MyDiary protects your information

MyDiary uses several layers of protection. These layers work together rather than depending on one password alone.

Encrypted note storage

Note content is encrypted before it is stored in the local database.

Secure PIN

Adds an app-level secret for locked notes and protected actions.

Biometric verification

Uses your phone's biometric system for sensitive actions where supported.

Recovery certificate

Carries information needed to recover/decrypt a restored encrypted diary.

Protected certificate sharing

Sharing the certificate requires a configured Secure PIN plus biometric verification.

Encrypted backups

Backups contain the encrypted diary database rather than plain-text notes.

A fair security comparison: no app can promise absolute security, and different apps use different designs. MyDiary's security model is clear: encrypted storage, PIN/biometric controls, encrypted backups and separate protection of the recovery certificate.

7. Backup and restore

MyDiary provides both scheduled Google Drive backup and flexible manual backup. They solve different problems.

Scheduled Google Drive backup

Choose Daily, Weekly or Monthly. When Drive is connected and validated, MyDiary uploads an encrypted database backup to the visible MyDiary folder in your Google Drive.

Recovery certificate stays separate

The recovery certificate is not automatically uploaded with the scheduled database backup. This reduces the chance that one cloud location contains everything needed for recovery.

Manual backup

Create an encrypted database backup and choose where to save or send it using Android: WhatsApp, email, Drive, Files or another installed service.

Confidence you can see: Cloud backups are stored in a visible Google Drive → MyDiary folder, so you can open Google Drive and confirm the backup exists.
If Drive upload fails: MyDiary keeps the local backup and records the failed cloud attempt so the Dashboard can warn you. Saving or editing a note does not itself trigger a Google Drive upload.

8. Moving MyDiary to a new phone

For a safe transfer you need the encrypted database backup and its matching recovery certificate.

Make a recent backup

On the old phone, create or choose a recent database backup.

Save or share the backup

Place the .db backup somewhere you can reach from the new phone.

Share the recovery certificate

Use Transfer & share data. MyDiary requires biometric verification and your Secure PIN before the certificate can leave the phone.

Choose Restore on the new phone

Select the .db backup and then choose or paste the matching recovery certificate.

Verify before deleting anything

Open several restored notes, including a locked note, before removing the old phone copy or old backup.

Important: Do not uninstall the old phone copy until you have confirmed that the new phone can open the restored diary correctly.

9. Frequently asked questions

Will updating MyDiary delete my notes?

A normal app update should preserve the app database and preferences. Do not uninstall the old app first. Keep a backup before major upgrades.

What happens if I uninstall MyDiary?

Android normally removes the app's private local data. Restore is possible only if you have a usable backup and the required recovery information.

Why do I need a recovery certificate?

The backup contains encrypted information. The recovery certificate is part of the recovery process needed to restore that encrypted diary on another installation.

Can I share a backup through WhatsApp?

Yes. Manual backup uses the Android share sheet, so you can choose WhatsApp, email, Google Drive, Files or another supported app.

Can I use MyDiary in Hindi, Bengali or Gujarati?

Yes. Change Language in Settings. Your own note titles and content are not translated or modified.

How do I know a Google Drive backup worked?

Check the Backup & Restore screen or Dashboard status, then open Google Drive and confirm that the visible MyDiary folder contains a recent backup.
